Animal-Based Raw Banana Pie

Did you know the oldest American Banana Pie dates back to the 19th century? And that Banana Cream Pie is also a very well-known cultivar prized for its terpene profiles? This animal-based no bake and raw dessert is the perfect treat for Spring picnics, birthday parties, celebrations, and is delicious infused with cannabis or not! I have been a raw foodist since January 2008 and desserts have always been my favorite jam. This is a tried-and-true recipe that is always a crowd pleaser!

Banana Cream pie originally was a baked crust filled with sliced bananas, sprinkled with sugar, and then baked in the oven until the bananas became tender. The pie was then topped with whipped cream and served with a squeeze of lemon juice. Far from what we know today, it wasn’t until 1906 that a custard was poured over the bananas in the pie shell. And then in the 1950’s is when both the bananas and the custard were blended into delicious pudding that filled the pie shell and was topped with whipped cream. Today, the “Double Banana Cream Pie” survives with bananas sliced on the bottom of the pie shell, custard on top, and then topped with whipped cream and banana slices.

Banana Cream Pie as a cultivar is an exceptional strain with very aromatic terpenes which make it great for baking. It is a hybrid that ranges in THC from 15%-25%, so it is definitely not a strain for beginners. It is very uplifting while bestowing relaxing effects perfect for depression or stress. The flavor profiles of fruity banana mixed with hints of sweet earth and cream make this a cult classic. It is a must have for banana desserts or any dessert using fruit or cream as the terpenes pair wonderfully.

I took inspiration from all my years as a raw foodist to come up with this pie. By using an animal-based pie crust of pork rinds and dates instead of wheat and butter, this pie crust takes it to the next level. The filling is raw foods based with raw heavy cream and spotty bananas. The topping is raw whipping cream combined with raw honey that will change the way you make whipped cream forever. Enjoy this decadent Animal-Based Raw Banana Pie after a fat T-Bone steak, you won’t regret it!

FAQs

Can I make these without weed?
Of course! These recipes taste amazing both infused and not!

How Ripe Should Bananas be for Animal-Based Raw Banana Pie?
A perfectly ripe banana is a spotty one as it has the right balance of sweet and banana flavor without being overly powerful. Too ripe can add too much sweetness as all of the starch has turned to sugar and can overpower the dish. Yet, an underripe banana or a banana with green still on the skin is full of starch and the banana flavor hasn’t developed enough.

How to Store Animal-Based Raw Banana Pie
Once fully set and decorated, this banana pie should be stored in a fridge covered to prevent it from absorbing ambient flavors.

How Long Does It Last?
This pie generally is gobbled up within 24 hours in our household when it isn’t infused. But if your pie does last, 4 days in the fridge should suffice. Anything past that and we recommend freezing portions.

How to Freeze Animal-Based Raw Banana Pie
This pie can be frozen as a whole pie, then thawed in the refrigerator, and then sliced when ready to enjoy. It can also be sliced before freezing, so you can enjoy one slice at a time by placing a piece of parchment or wax paper between the slices and then place into a bag or container.

How to Defrost Animal-Based Raw Banana Pie
Pull from the freezer and place into the refrigerator to defrost overnight. You can also defrost on the counter for 15 minutes before slicing if the cake is whole.

  • Vitamix
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Handheld Blender
  • Spring Form Pan
  • Measuring cups
  • Piping Bag
  • Spatula

Filling

  • 16 oz Raw Heavy Cream
  • 4 Spotty Bananas
  • 2 Pinches Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons Beef Gelatin

Crust

  • 2 Cups Plain Pork Rinds
  • 1 Spotty Banana

Topping

  • 1 Cup Raw Heavy Cream
  • 2 Tablespoons Raw Honey
  • 1 Spotty Banana for Garnish

Crust

  1. Process 1 cup dates with 2 cups pork rinds in a Vitamix until crumbly.

  2. Press this mixture into the bottom of a 6"-inch spring form pan.

  3. Slice up 1 banana and layer on the crust.

Filling

  1. Blend the raw heavy cream, 4 bananas, sea salt, and 1 packet gelatin into a Vitamix.

  2. Transfer to a mixing bowl and sprinkle 1 packet gelatin over the filling mixture.

  3. Add 1-gram raw Banana Cream Pie kief or 1 gram decarbed Banana Cream Pie Kief.

  4. Beat the filling until it thickens, about 8-10 minutes.

  5. Pour filling into pan and chill overnight.

Topping

  1. Add raw heavy cream and honey to a mixing bowl. Beat until it forms peaks. Do not over beat or it will turn into butter.

  2. Transfer the whipped cream topping to a piping bag and decorate the top of the pie. Garnish with 1 sliced banana.

Dosage:

If a gram of Banana Cream Pie kief tests at 50 percent THC, then 500 mg of THC is present when decarbed properly. If you choose to use raw kief, then you are consuming THCA.

Therefore, substitute the number of your THC percentage and the amount of kief you have and do the math to figure out you’re dosing. If you want a smaller dose, cut the flower down to a smaller portion. For a larger dose, add in more.

Stain Pairing Suggestion:

When preparing this recipe, I would recommend pairing strains that possess banana, cream, and sweet earthy terpenes and flavonoids. If you do not have access to this strain, then use your nose and taste buds to find other cultivar’s that have similar smell and flavor profiles.
