Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, or a full on carnivore – one thing we can all agree on is the importance of binders for flavor, moisture, and leavening in baked goods. This is where eggs come in since they are traditionally used for this purpose.
But what do we do if we are vegan and don’t use eggs? Or what if we are vegetarians or carnivores and the grocery store runs out? The great news is that you may already have several pantry items patiently waiting to save the day.
Thankfully, many common household items can be substituted so that your bread won’t be completely lifeless (flat, unflavored, and dry). So the next time you have a vegan family member to cook for or run out of your egg supply, I got you covered with 12 simple swaps! And if you want to get fancy, I have an uber simple recipe to make whipped eggs whites. Ever hear of aquafaba? It’s the liquid from canned beans. And boy, will you never look at canned beans the same way again.

The state of grocery stores is an absolute mess right now during the coronavirus outbreak. And trying to buy any plant-based milk for Vegan’s or people who have dairy issues might actually end in a fist fight. Store shelves are being stripped bare of most…
Right now, at this very moment, there is no better time than plant medicine. Nature, God, mother earth – has given us all that we need which grows freely on this earth. Using the holistic healing powers of ginger, lime, turmeric, cayenne, l-glutamine, and CBD – this tonic is a must have daily immune system booster.
You may be asking yourself why should I even bother? The simple answer is that this shot is full of vitamin c, antioxidants, minerals, amino acids, and anti-inflammatory agents that boost your immune response to the environments potential bad guys. And right now, each and every one of us could use that. Especially those who have issues with their immune system.
Mise en place:
2 whole hand sized ginger roots
1/16th teaspoon cayenne or two pinches
1/16th teaspoon tumeric or two pinches
1/8th teaspoon bulk concentrated Vegan L-Glutamine or 200mg
CBD tincture or oil
Break apart the ginger with the skin intact and peel the limes. Add both to a juicer and collect the juice in a glass jar as it runs off.
Once all of the ginger root and limes have been juiced, stir in the cayenne and tumeric.
Store in the fridge. When it is time to take a shot, simply pour out into a small shot glass. Then stir in the l-glutamine and CBD (dose will be bottle/brand specific). You can also mix it into orange juice to help get it down. Take this shot daily or during flu season.
For children, only administer about 5 ml or 1 teaspoon without the l-glutamine and CBD. DO NOT give the ginger straight to your child but rather mix it into some orange or apple juice. Give once a day or during peak flu season.
Lastly, CBD can interact with some medications. Generally the rule of thumb is, if your medication interacts with grapefruit, don’t take CBD. Always check with your doctor before consuming CBD. Here is a list of some known interactions, though it is not a complete list, so ask your doctor!

Many cultures around the world such as France, Southern Europe, and the Islamic world have have had a fond love and reverance for bidets for personal hygiene. Whether it is an actual porecelain bidet, an add-on attachment, or a toliet with a mechanical shower attachment – they are the perfect ecological and economical tool for your family.
“Bidet” is French, meaning “little horse” which is due to the horse like straddling position adopted in its usage. While many are put off at the idea of getting into a horse stance or sitting down and trying to aim a hose at your bum – fret not my dear! This handy little toliet accessory will become your bff in no time.
When my family went Zero Waste in June 2019 we discussed getting a bidet. In July 2019, we ordered our first one and I started our family cloth. Since then, we haven’t looked back – enjoying both the environmental, health, and financial positives.
A bidet stops the need for toliet paper which saves the environment a little stress. To make 1 roll of toliet paper it can take anywhere between 12 to 37 gallons of water. Americans on average as a whole use 36.5 billion rolls of TP per year. Whereas a person who uses a traditional bidet only uses 1/8th of a gallon of water to spray and flush. It is also worth to mention that Sientific American reported that if all American’s switched to using bidets, 15 million trees could be saved every year.
Personal hygiene is improved with the use of a bidet which is good news for anyone. The spray literally washes you clean leaving no residue behind. Whereas toliet paper can get stuck in crevices or not thoughourly clean your private areas. For women, using a bidet during their time of month, pregnancy, postpartum, or after sex is one of the most refreshing experiences. For men, using a bidet to keep their booty clean as a whistle and after sex clean-up is more than enough for them to say, YES!
Money that goes to toliet paper per year is actually freed up when you purchase a bidet. Which means you can put this towards savings, food, or other important life things. Think about all the positives you will be doing for yourself and your family. And in the event of a crisis – you won’t have to waste money on TP which funnels money to more important things!
How To Use A Bidet with Family Cloth
But how do I get dry you ask? Simple answer: Family Cloth. Yes, google it. That’s a thing. All you have to do is get a small basket, small hand towels or cut up a cotton towel into squares, a basket with a cloth bag insert, and some bleach. Fill the small basket with the folded small towels and place near your toliet. Now, place the basket and insert on the floor near your toliet.
When you need to go, simply spray yourself with the bidet and then grab one small family cloth square. Pat your bum dry and toss it into the basket on the floor by the toliet. When it fills up, simply add all the cloths to the washer machine. You can also get a lined wicker basket with a top if you wish. Add in bleach to the dispenser, soap, and 1/4 cup baking soda into the drum. Wash on hot/hot or the sanitize cycle. Then dry on the hottest setting which will sanitize the cloths again. Now, you have clean and disinfected cloths that can be used over and over again with your bidet.

Did you know that traditional clay based cat litter is not biodegradable? When it is sent to landfills it just lumps into clay piles that gets compacted with other trash particles. And the actual mining process of clay is environmentally damaging to our earth.
Facilities will use strip mining to pull the clay from the landscape. This not only scars the natural land but disrupts the ecosystem as the land is stripped bare. Because clay contains silica dust, when it is turned into cat litter, this air born dust is stirred up anytime the clay cat litter is aggitated. This is both bad for your cat and anyone living in the house with you. Silica dust has been known to trigger asthma and respiratory issues.
So what are cat lovers out there left to do? We can make the switch from clay cat litter to biodegradable ones such as pine, recycled newspaper, or corn pellets. These are much healthier options for both you and your feline companion. And each day when you scoop your litter box, you can compost it for non-edible mulch for your garden space outside your home. A lot of people will scoof at the idea of composting cat litter because of feline diseases. But as long as your cat is healthy it is not different than composting other animal manure for mulch.
If you opt for pine pellets like we did, you have the added benefit of terpenes in your cat litter. As soon as I poured in the new cat litter, my cat Mao went bonkers over the smell. She was doing her happy dance, purring, and rubbing the smell from my hand all over her face. You can also add more terpenes by mixing True Terpene with a carrier oil and then mixing it with a small amount of baking soda. You can sprinkle this on the bottom of the litter box to keep it smelling extra fresh instead of all the chemical smells they put in traditional clay litters.
Lastly, you need to ease your cat into this process. Lay down a layer of your old cat litter with the new pellets on top. Slowly phase out your old cat litter as the weeks pass until thr cat or cats are using just the pellets. Some cats will take to the pellets right away while others will be more hesitant. But in general, your cats will be happier as the pellets will not be abrasive to their paws, there will be no dust to aggitate their airways, and their litter will smell natural to them.
